Aerial Acrobatics with Laure

Can you explain to our readers what aerial acrobatics is?

Aerial acrobatics is a combination of movement/flow and art up in the air. There are many different apparatuses you can use, such as pole, hoop, silks, trapeze, air hang, straps, ropes. An Infinite choice to explore acrobatics while flying, on static or spinning.

Which is your favourite and why?

My favorite is definitely the pole. It was also the first thing I tried, my first love! It is really challenging and it pushes me to surpass limits on a daily base (fears/pain). It is an artistic sport and the combinations of moves and creatIons are unlimited.

How long ago did you start, and how did you get into this?

I started pole dancing 7 years ago. I always wanted to try it but it wasn’t that popular back then. I fell in love with it the first time I tried it because it reminded me so much of gymnastics, which I practiced for 12 years as a kid, and I really missed it.

How do you discipline yourself to stay fit and what training do you do on a daily basis?

I train flexibility and mobility about three times a week. I don’t like cardio or weight lifting. I need to feel free and creative while doing sports!

Do you choreograph your own routines and if so who is your inspiration?

Yes, I create my own choreography. I mostly find inspiration on Instagram where I follow many pole dancers from around the world. You’re also an aerial acrobatic teacher – what specifically do you teach? I teach flexibility, pole dance and aerial hoop.

What is the most significant misconception people have about aerial acrobatics?

Misconceptions people have, I would say is the work and discipline you need to put into it to be able to get some level. Nothing comes from nothing – if you have the motivation everything is possible in this life!

If you need to stop tomorrow doing aerial acrobatics, what will you do?

That would be really difficult for me. I’ve got a bad knee tendonitis, but I still try to move, do some yoga/flexibility, and less acrobatics to give my body some time to recover.

Is there anything you’d like to say specifically to our readers?

Aerial acrobatics is definitely for everyone who’d like to surpass their limits. It’s a sport where you can have fun without people judging you. “Come as you are. Create, be yourself and enjoy! ”

Do you also perform at events, championships/ tournaments and if so, do you have a team you work with or is it just you?

Yes, I work with co-teachers from my school, and other artists who live here on the island. People can hire us for special events such as shows nights, concerts, birthdays, weddings, retreats or circus shows.
